2022 Tourism Revenue In The Second Quarter Outperformed 2019

Turkey tourism revenue increased by 190.2 percent to $ 8.7 billion in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the same quarter a year earlier. This revenue also outstripped the $7.9 billion in revenue generated in the second quarter of 2019.

Accordingly, tourism income is included in II. in the quarter, it increased by 190.2 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year to 8 billion 717 million 103 thousand dollars.

83.8% of the tourism revenue (excluding mobile phone roaming and marina service expenses) was generated from foreign visitors, and 16.2% was generated from citizen visitors residing abroad.

Thus, the tourism revenue generated exceeded 2019 in the second quarter. Turkey’s tourism revenue was 7 billion 973 million 963 thousand dollars in the second quarter of 2019.

THOSE WHO CAN GO ABROAD FELL SHARPLY COMPARED TO 2019

The number of citizens visiting abroad in the second quarter of 2019 increased by 11.4 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year and amounted to 2 million 444 thousand 668 people.

In the second quarter of 2022, the number of citizens visiting abroad increased by 321.6 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year to 1 million 666 thousand 135 people, although it remained well below the figures in 2019 and decreased by 778 thousand 533 people.

Their average per capita spending fell to $635 in the second quarter from $640 the previous quarter.

In the second quarter of 2022, the average nightly expenditure of foreigners was $ 81, while the average nightly expenditure of citizens residing abroad was $ 65.

Of the expenditures made in this quarter, 6 billion 273 million 64 thousand dollars were made up of personal expenditures and 2 billion 444 million 39 thousand dollars were made up of package tour expenditures.

Spending on sports, education, culture increased by 456.1 percent, while spending on package tours (the remaining share of our country) increased by 331.3 percent and spending on accommodation by 185.6 percent.

FOREIGNERS CAME MOST OFTEN FOR THE PURPOSE OF SIGHTSEEING, ENTERTAINMENT

On the other hand, when looking at the details of the number of visitors leaving Turkey, it was observed that 87 percent of them were foreigners with 10 million 382 thousand 68 people, and 13 percent were citizens residing abroad with 1 million 557 thousand 63 people.

In the second quarter of 2022, foreign visitors visited Turkey the most for “sightseeing, entertainment, sporting and cultural activities” with 70.4 percent.

The second place was occupied by “visiting relatives and friends” with 14.8 percent, and the third place was occupied by “shopping” with 6.7 percent.

Foreign resident citizens came to Turkey with 57.9 percent for the purpose of “visiting relatives and friends” the most.
