The Latest Version Of Istanbul: Close To Half Can Not Get Along! Shows July 2022 Survey

According to the Istanbul Barometer survey, in which IMM takes the pulse of the people of Istanbul every month, 62.1 percent of the participants said that they reduced their portions because they could not reach enough food.

Istanbul Planning Agency, affiliated to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), has published the Istanbul Barometer July 2022 Report.

In July-August 2022 the Istanbul residents were interviewed over the phone and remarkable results were reached in the report prepared by IMM.

FOOD INTAKE FELL DUE TO FINANCIAL INSUFFICIENCY

70.1 percent of the participants stated that they could not buy their preferred foods due to financial insufficiency during this month.

In the participants belonging to the lower socioeconomic group, this ratio was found to be 80.1 percent. 61.7 percent of them said they were worried about reaching enough food in July.

62.1 percent of the participants said that they had reduced their portions because they could not get enough food.

While this rate was 66.1 percent in families with children, it was seen that 86.3 percent of the participants with an income of 5 thousand TL and below reduced their portions because they could not reach enough food when viewed by income level.

CLOSE TO HALF CAN NOT GET ALONG

In July, 43.6 percent of the respondents stated that they could not get along.

Of the participants who stated that they were able to accumulate, 43.5 percent said that they bought gold, and 24.2 percent said that they bought foreign currency. Compared to last month, there was an increase in the proportion of participants who bought gold.

41.2 PERCENT SCARCE OPINION IS GETTING ALONG

Paying July, 25.1 percent of the respondents stated that they could not make some payments and got into debt, 18.5 percent had difficulty getting by, 41.2 percent could barely get by, 15.2 percent were able to get by and put money aside.

DOMESTIC AGENDA: ECONOMIC ISSUES

The participants were asked what was most talked about at home in July. 71,5 of the participants mentioned economic problems, 5,8 percent of them talked about the increase in housing sales and rental prices. These topics were followed by family matters and vacation plans.

ISTANBUL AGENDA: HOUSING PRICES

Economic problems and housing sales and rental prices have been forming the agenda of Istanbul for four months.

In July, 40.2 percent of the participants stated that economic problems and 36.4 percent of the increase in housing sales and rental prices in Istanbul are the agenda of Istanbul.

TURKEY AGENDA: FUEL HIKES

20.7 Percent of the participants stated that fuel hikes and 14.6 percent stated that the mobility experienced in the exchange rate was on Turkey’s agenda in July.

According to the respondents, Turkey ranked third on the agenda with 13.7 percent, cases of violence against health workers and the murder of a doctor took place.

HOW HAPPY IS ISTANBUL?

The participants were asked about their emotional state in July and asked to rate it out of 10. The stress level of Istanbulites was measured as 7.5; the happiness level was measured as 4.7.
