According to the data of the Population Registration System based on the TUIK address, the number of foreigners living in Turkey has decreased by 197 thousand 770 in the last year and has become 1 million 531 thousand. The number of Syrians, Iraqis and Iranians has decreased, while the number of Afghans and Kazakhstanis has increased. 700 citizens of Qatar, who have recently attracted attention for their investments in Turkey, live in Turkey.

197 THOUSAND FOREIGNERS LEFT TURKEY, MOST AFGHANS CAME

In the results of Turkish Statistical Institute’s “address-based Population Registration System” (ADNKS), the number of “foreign populations by country of citizenship” in Turkey and the change in 2019 were also announced.

According to ADNKS data of TUIK, the number of foreigners resident in Turkey, which is 1 million 531 thousand 180 in 2019, fell by 13 percent to 1 million 333 thousand 410.

Iraqis in the number of foreigners in Turkey again took the first place decisively with 281 thousand 74. Afghans took second place with 158 thousand 252, and Germans took third place with 92 thousand 284. Then came Turkmens, Syrians, Iranians and Azerbaijanis respectively.

Afghans experienced the most increase among foreigners settling in Turkey in 2020. The number of Afghans increased from 152,230 to 158,220.

Only in Istanbul, the foreign population with a residence or work permit declined from 597 thousand to 450 thousand last year.

GERMAN, BRITISH, GREEK AND RUSSIAN

The number of Germans, Austrians, Bulgarians, Britons, Greeks, Danes, Russians, Canadians, Swiss, Kuwaitis, Somalis and Afghans in Turkey has increased. The number of Americans, Ukrainians, Moldovans, Swedes, Norwegians, Italians, Romanians, Belgians, French, Syrians, Iraqis and Iranians declined.
